Each pixel is replaced either by a highlight or a shadow, depending on light/dark boundaries on the original image. Low contrast areas are replaced by a plain background. The resulting image resembles a paper or metal embossing of the original image, hence the name. Three modes of operation are supported; normal, emboss and alpha.
Edge Detect
Creates outlines around edges. The resulting image resembles an edge-tracing/cartoon of the original image.
Pixelate
Lowers the resolution of the images by creating the illusion of larger pixels. Primarily used for censorship. To apply this effect to small areas of the image (instead of the whole image), use the censor option of the effects brush.
Oilify
Makes the image look like an oil painting.
Diffuse Glow
Scatters the light being “reflected” by the bright parts of the image. It adds a soft, dreamy quality to photos.
Drop Shadow
Creates a shadow below and to the bottom-right of non-transparent objects in an image. The resulting image makes the opaque objects are casting shadows as a result of being illuminated from the top-left.
Create Halo
Creates a colored halo or glow around non-transparent objects in an image. The resulting image makes the opaque objects look phosphorent.
Reflection
Adds a semi-transparent reflection below the layer.
